Ellis had his first birthday last month and we had a wonderful time celebrating his first year of life both here in Texas and with family in Oklahoma!
There were a few things that I wanted to do/complete before Ellis’ first birthday that ended up being a lot of fun to work on during nap times and in the evenings. First on the list, send out birthday invitations to our family members.
We didn’t actually throw an official party, but I still wanted to make invitations (#overexcitedmom)! I had a lot of fun working on different lettering styles and trying out different ways of making the dots. I was really happy with how they turned out!
After finishing the invitations, I got to work on finishing Ellis’ baby book and putting together a video to summarize his first year. Both of these projects were really fun, as well!
Birthday Celebration I
On Ellis’ birthday, the day started fairly normally, but while Ellis was down for his first nap, Mr. Torres and I hung up decorations and set out birthday gifts. Just as we had hoped, Ellis was amazed by all the streamers, balloons, and presents once he woke up!
After unwrapping presents and playing with all the balloons, we had lunch (mac and cheese and baked beans…Ellis’ favorites!) and cupcakes and ice cream.
The cupcakes were a naturally-sweetened citrus muffin recipe and the frosting was peanut butter mixed with Greek yogurt. Ellis wasn’t really interested in his cupcake, but loved the frosting and, of course, the ice cream!
Afterwards, to deal with the mess and the sugar-high, we let Ellis run around in the sprinkler outside:D
I honestly don’t remember what else we did that day, but we just tried to enjoy the day and appreciate the phase of life that Ellis (and our family) is in right now. I honestly thought I would be more emotional than I was. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely had teary eyes multiple times throughout the day, but more than anything, I felt a sense of joy! We survived the first year! We are all alive and happy! Some days are definitely crazier than others, but one year in, God has never failed to give us strength and grace and appreciation for each new day!
So here’s to year two! May it be as blessed as year one, may Ellis grow in wisdom and in stature, and may Mr. Torres and I get a whole lot more sleep!
